An important feature of the RPA was that large numbers of fighters had abandoned their secondary school and university studies to join the liberation war. After the insurgency and foreign military campaigns, support was offered to many RDF soldiers to resume their studies at various national secondary schools and the then National Uninversity of Rwanda.
Others were sent to countries such as India, Israel, and South Africa to complete their studies or register for selected educational programs. As a result of this policy, the RDF was among the first institutions to have within its ranks, graduates; specialized doctors, economists, accountants, biologists, and specialists in ICT, civil, electonic communications and electrical engineering. Today, these graduates are the helm of the force, proudly serving the army, the country, and wider Rwandan society.
