The Military Health Service is responsible for ensuring the health of defence and security organs personnel, their families and the general public.

Organisation

The Military Health Service is composed of formations, directorates and agencies

Military Health Service formations are as follows:

  1. Rwanda Military Referral and Teaching Hospital;
  2. medical operations support command composed of medical regiments and field medical facilities;
  3. medical regional support command composed of military health facilities.

Military Health Service directorates are as follows:

  1. Directorate of Epidemiology and Public Health;
  2. Directorate of Medical Training, Research and Innovation;
  3. Directorate of Drugs and Medical Materials;
  4. Directorate of Corporate Services 

Responsibilties of the Medical Health Service

The Military Health Service has the following responsibilities:

  • to ensure the health of defence and security organs personnel, their families and the general public;
  • to contribute to the achievements of the Government’s objectives related to the national healthcare security;
  • to provide high-quality healthcare to members of Rwanda Defence Force deployed within the country or abroad;
  • to intervene in humanitarian activities domestically or abroad in the event of a pandemic, disasters, devastating accident or when considered necessary;
  • to promote the medical education of health professionals at all levels, as well as research and innovation.
