UNMISS SECTOR NORTH COMMANDER WELCOMES NEW RWANDAN CONTINGENT IN MALAKAL

Malakal, 18 August 2025

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Sector North Commander, Maj Gen Nakul B RAYAMAJHI officially welcomed the newly deployed Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) contingent (Rwanbatt-2) as they relieved their colleagues in Malakal, Upper Nile State.

Upon arrival, the Sector Commander received a detailed briefing from Lt Col Robert RWAGIHUNGU, the Rwanbatt-2 Contingent Commander, on the contingent’s operational readiness and deployment plan.

Following the briefing, the Sector Commander addressed the contingent, including Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks, where he commended the outgoing Rwanbatt-2 for their professionalism and dedication to peacekeeping. He urged the incoming personnel to uphold the highest standards of discipline and training in order to successfully accomplish their mission of protecting civilians, supporting humanitarian assistance, and contributing to lasting peace in South Sudan.

He further reminded the peacekeepers that their performance and conduct in the mission area not only reflect on the RDF but also on the UN as a whole, emphasising the need for teamwork, vigilance and commitment.

Rwanbatt-2 has now fully assumed its duties in Sector North, continuing Rwanda’s strong contribution to UN peacekeeping efforts.
