RWANDA SECURITY FORCE HANDOVER MARKET TO RESIDENTS OF MACOMIA DISTRICT

Cabo Delgado, 30 May 2025

Rwanda Security Force (RSF) officially handed over a newly constructed market facility to the local population of Macomia town in a ceremony that was attended by local authorities, representatives of Mozambican Security organ, community representatives, and members of the RSF, marking a significant step in supporting the socio-economic recovery and development of communities affected by insecurity in the Cabo Delgado province.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Mayor of Macomia District, Tomás Badae, expressed his gratitude to the Rwanda Security Force for their continued support, and urged local residents to take good care of the new market to ensure long-term benefit.

“Since the arrival of the Rwanda Security Force, the wellbeing of Macomia’s citizens has improved in various ways, as a community, we will continue to collaborate with the security forces as they work to combat terrorism and ensure peace in the district,” said Badae.

Brig Gen Justus Majyambere, Task Force Brigade Group 4 Commander who represented Rwanda Security Force Joint Task Force Commander, emphasised that the market was built to provide a safe, organised, and modern space for local vendors and residents to engage in economic activities. He also underlined the importance of restoring essential infrastructure as means of fostering long-term stability.

“This market is more than just a structure; it is a symbol of cooperation, partnership, and resilience. Rwanda Security Force remains committed not only to ensuring peace but also to supporting the daily lives and wellbeing of the communities we serve, in line with the guidance of HE Paul Kagame, the President of the Republic of Rwanda and Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force,” said Brig Gen Majyambere.

Rwanda Security Force deployed to the southern sector of Cabo Delgado Province in June 2024, replaced the SADC/SAMIM mission, and continues to work alongside Mozambican Forces to restore peace and security.
