Greece donates Covid-19 vaccines to Rwanda

Kigali, 03 September 2021

Rwanda has today received 200,000 Covid-19 doses of AstraZeneca donated by Hellenic Armed Forces through partnership with Rwanda Defence Force.
The consignment was received at Kigali International Airport by the Minister of State for Health, Lt Col Dr. Tharcisse Mpunga.
While handing over the vaccines, Mr Alexandros Diakopoulos, the General Director for development cooperation and Humanitarian Aid under Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Greece said that the donation was a clear indication of Greece’s willingness to have close cooperation with the Rwandan people. “It is an indication of our solidarity with the Rwandan people,” he said.

Minister of State for Health, Lt Col Dr. Tharcisse Mpunga said the cooperation that Rwanda has with other countries will enable it to acquire vaccines for a big number of people.
“We believe these vaccines will target especially elder people in the rural area since they are more vulnerable with high risk of death incase they get infected with Covid-19,” he said.

The donation is a sign of the existing good relations between Hellenic Armed Forces and Rwanda Defence Force. This follows a recent visit to Greece by the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, Gen J Bosco Kazura.
